JOLIET – UPS driver John Marenholcas recently had a double hip replacement operation done at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
The procedure, a Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) by anterior approach, was performed by Dr. Anuj Puppala, one of the few physicians in the region who practice this anterior hip replacement approach.
One of the advantages of THA, anterior approach, is the shortened recovery time. Some patients go home the same day as surgery. The average recovery time for a standard hip replacement is around three months.
Unlike the posterior approach, the anterior approach has no restrictions for motion and depending on the patient, some were declining therapy as soon as two weeks after their operation or even all together.
